View Full Version : We're Mandalorians, I thought we discouraged the Force?

I realized that throughout the star wars mythos, Mandalorians have had a general dislike of Jedi and Sith. We love to fight em, but would it make sense for our guild to feature force weilders?
I personally don't plan on playing a force weilding class, and I just want to know what you guys think about this... dillema.

The fact that it's a game is probably the reason we are letting this slide. Personally I'll be playing a sith warrior or jedi, but Gilamar as a character is not a Force user(thinking about changing that). I plan on playing the game for the game itself and if i need to be "non-cannon" to have fun then I will. If this was just a forum to RP on then i'm sure it would be different but the fact that this is a game is making it okay to twist cannon a bit to just have fun and do what you want.

My char doesn't use the Force, and I'm going to be playing bounty hunter or smuggler, and doing my best to ignore the Force...

Actually even in the star wars universe thier have been Mandalorian force users in wookiepedia look up the name Bardan Jusik/Bardan Skirata. He was actually a knight who left the order and joined the mandalorians.
The way I see it Mandalorians would promote the use of any speciality one might have, if that happens to be the force so be it. I think it woudl be difficult for most jedi or sith to accept such a divurgent change in thier training but like anyone core beliefs can be changed.
And more importantly as Gil pointed out it is a game so making concessions for fun is what it is all about.

I don't have a problem with force users among Mandalorians per se - why should they be exempt from the point whatever percentage of their population being force sensitive? -what I do have a problem with is Jedi and Sith among Mandalorians ... that is, Mandalorians who try to hold on to the philosophies of those groups while serving the mando cause. The way I see it, you can only have one master, either it is the J&S religions or it is mando military philosophy - trying to split one's attention between the two weakens em both.
So I guess what I'm gettin' at is, if you're a force wielding Mando you should either have been born that way and learned to use your powers unofficially among mandalorians, or you should be a Jedi/Sith whom has given up his previous life (religion, titles, etc) to become a mandalorian.
My only issue is when you start seeing too many force wielding Mandalorians ya start wondering - is being a Mandalorian not cool enough for you? Ya gotta slip a little jedi into the mix? But, it's a game, people should play whatever allows em to have fun - so long as it doesn't step on my toes.

Well, my character was originally going to be a Jedi. It was when searching for a quality guild that I found CoM and decided to make modifications to my character to adapt it to fit in as a Mandalorian. In a way, trying to find a way to justify a force sensitive Mandalorian, allowed me to find an "in" for Force Sensitives to be part of Mandalorians.
As far as my character goes, it's about Revan being "the bridge" between Mandalorians and Force Users. Revan met the Mandalorians on their own terms, used their weaknesses against them, and ultimately won, all in the meanwhile earning the respect of the clans. Revan's later war against the republic and betrayal by the "Sith" Malak resulted in Malak's fall and the republic's salvation. It was Revan proving his way was stronger than the Jedi, Mando, Republic, or Sith ways, because he learned from all these groups.
My character's view is that as far as war goes, both the Mandalorians and the Jedi/Sith can grow stronger by learning from eachother, whichever one takes these steps forward will have an advantage because of it. The Mandalorians goal is indeed to become better and stronger warriors. In the long-term, Mandalorians should learn to grow stronger because of these force users. Excluding a group of people who have a natural gift is only asking for a disadvantage.
In fact, it could be argued that by failing to grow led to the stagnation and decline of the Mandalorians between TOR's time and the Movies' time.

Mandalorians (in my mind) have a pretty simple outlook on the whole thing. If you're an Mando, you use all your skills and talents to protect your home, defend your honor and defeat your enemies. This includes the Force. If you're wearing a full suit of beskar, wielding a lightsaber (or two) and leading the charge in a Basilisk war droid on a Jedi Temple, then more power too you.
If you're trying to live in a Mandalorian community while promoting peace, love and harmony or anger, betrayal and subterfuge, then either way, you've got problems. I don't care how powerful you are; having a Mando'ade clan after your ass for pissing them off is never a good way to live a full, healthy life.
Thus, if your character is a bad mama-jama with an over-sized glowstick and just happens to be helping out, I see no problem with it. As long as you are only helping out. The minute you turn on your vode is the minute you become less than Mando'a.

From what I can tell, the Mandalorians generally don't disapprove of Force-users as much as they disapprove of Jedi (and Sith, at times). But since 99.9% of the people in the galaxy aren't Force-sensitive, 99.5% of all Force-users are Jedi or Sith (because they actively try to recruit them), and 99.9% of all trained Force-users are Jedi or Sith, there just aren't many Force-users among Mandalorians anyway (yeah, those numbers are complete guesses, but there is logic to them).

I don't see a problem with Force-using Mandalorians, its just if they choose to personally 'align' with one of the two larger Force using powers, Jedi or Sith. In my opinion, a Force-using Mandalorian is just that; a Mandalorian who uses the Force to complement his already overly lethal arsenal of skills.

I have to say this is an odd topic to begin with, why would we discourage the force users, when we are probably a republic mandalorian guild, which means we wont be allied with the "true" mandalorians, but with the Mandalorians who decided to fight for their own rights against the sith.

Well, we don't actually know that much about in-game Mandalorians, except that a false Mandalore had them follow the Sith (but now that he's gone, some do, some don't, we don't know much about the new Mandalore except that he seems to support the Sith).

I honestly think we need to be realistic about this. We have 2 force and non force classes on each side. I would never expect every single member of our clan to be forced with the selection of only Trooper/Smuggler or Bounty Hunter/ Imperial Agent. I think we only have like 5 Force users in our clan right now anyways (I honestly have no idea how many we have to tell the truth hahah) so I don't see it as an issue we need to address.
